transform your property with multiguard solutions

Insurance backed Gurantees on wall coatings

Wall coatings and specialist renders have traditionally been snubbed by the insurance industry in the past due to a few rotten apples working in the industry. As a result of this there have been no insurance backed guarantees to provide peace of mind to potential customers.

We are delighted to announce that due to our track record of consistent quality workmanship and the fact we only use accredited materials and systems Multiguard Solutions are now able to offer a 10 year insurance backed guarantee to our clients.

Whilst rightly proud of receiving this backing from a world famous insurance company we realise the comfort that these guarantees give to our customers. Any substantial investment in a property carries with it some risk and worry in the mind of the homeowner and this natural reaction can now be put to one side by doing business with ourselves.

For more details on our comprehensive range of bespoke solutions and the insurance backed guarantees please CALL US NOW on 01908 516366 or email us using the CONTACT US TAB if you do not wish to speak in person to one of our advisors

Brick slip tiles Notts,Leics,Derby,Lincs

Brick tiles, also known as brick slips are an attractive alternative way of improving or restoring the external appearance of a property at a much lower cost than building a new brick  skin around the house and also in a lot less time. By adding thermal mass to the wall brick tiles can also boost insulation values and reduce heat loss and CO2 emissions.

Brick or stone slips come in a wide range of colours, styles and materials although the two most common and effective systems are either a 15-25mm thick clay brick tile or a highly durable resin “brick” front. They can transform a property’s appearance and can be used to cover whole walls or to add architectural features such as a brick plinth around the base or to highlight features such as a central gable section.

Breathable External Solid wall insulation London,Kent,Essex

Solid wall insulation presents a greater challenge than cavity walls as it is harder to insulate with no cavity to fill. In addition the vast majority of solid walled homes are pre 1940 and may not have sufficient ventilation incorporated into their design to handle the large amounts of moisture created by modern appliances.

In some cases the addition of double glazing, loft insulation and draught proofing can actually lead to damp problems as a result of restricting ventilation and therefore the escape of moisture to the outside. It is essential to the wellbeing of the building fabric and the occupants’ health that a property is able to breathe.

In light of this great care must be taken when external insulation is fitted so as not to trap the escaping moisture in the walls. Most external insulation systems use a completely non-breathable and moisture resistant insulation board that can lead to big problems over time.

To find out how to externally insulate without compromising the ability of the walls to breathe  CONTACT US NOW on 01908 516366 or if you prefer to email us please use the contact button on the right of this page.

Penetrating Damp

Penetrating damp by wind driven rain is often associated with infrequent water marks and patches on the interior walls. Usually these patches occur during periods of high winds and rain and when the wind direction drives the rain at an  angle into a porous section of the wall.

More commonly found on walls that face the south westerly winds penetrating damp is caused by water being forced under the pressure of the wind against porous stone and brick. A property with an exposed gable wall can be particularly prone to this as can walls that are high up, on a hill for example.

We have several systems that successfully solve this problem and are equally suitable for both brick and stone construction. Before recommending a cure however it is wise to firstly check that the roof tiles and any guttering/downpipes are sound and window seals are intact as these can sometimes account for the ingress of water.

If you have a problem of penetrating damp or wet patches on external walls then we would be delighted to hear from you. You can either PHONE US on 01908 516366 or if you prefer, EMAIL US by using the contact button on the right of the page.

Cellar tanking in London & West Midlands

Cellar or basement tanking has been around a long time and is used to prevent water ingress through walls and is often used in conjunction with a concreted floor. The technique is to use a waterproofing render on the walls and then a plaster finish coat with the aim of holding back the water pressure and preventing water from entering the cellar.

We have received a lot of enquiries from homeowners whose tanking has failed and water is now entering their cellars and blowing the tanking off the walls. As a very general rule of thumb tanking should only really be used in basements that are under very low or indeed no water pressure. In cases where it may be suitable it must be accompanied by a membraned floor with drainage channels.

If you are forcibly holding water back from entering the walls it will find the path of least resistance and enter via the floor or floor/wall junction. In some reported instances it will find a path into an adjoining property and flood their cellar.

For more detailed information on tanking and why a cavity membrane system is almost always preferable CALL US NOW on 01908 516366 or EMAIL US using the contact button if you do not wish to speak in person to one of our technicians.

Flooded Cellar conversion Notts,Derbys,Leics

Flooding in a cellar can happen at any time even in a previously dry basement which has never been flooded previously. As an example of this Multiguard were recently called out to a cellar near Thirsk, North Yorkshire which has been under a constant 9 inches of water for the last 10 months including all over summertime.

What makes this case so interesting is that the property is over 150 years old and according to an 80 year old local resident had never previously flooded. The water first appeared in late September 2007 after some particularly heavy rain and each time it is manually pumped out by the homeowner the water re-appears within a few hours to a constant depth of about 9 inches or so.

After much investigation by the owner including Environment Agency, Water Authority, local builder- and even a water diviner!!- the most likely cause established was that:

the already rising local water table was suddenly boosted by the building of a large new property within a 100m radius and whose foundations had inadvertently diverted an underground stream towards the direction of the previously dry property. The result is now a permanently flooded cellar that needs treatment.

Whilst the problem is easily solved by using a submersible pump and drainage system from Multiguard this example does highlight the need to fit a competent and efficient pump system in all cases regardless of whether the cellar is always dry.

You just never know what might occur beyond your control that could cause your cellar or basement to flood and cause a lot of damage.

“Better to be safe than sorry” is one thought that springs to mind.

Self Cleaning Render

Self cleaning render and stucco has received a lot of press interest recently due to a feature shown on TV by the Grand Designs programme. This has led to a large number of enquiries by homeowners keen to find out more and to know how they can arrange to have this “magical” coating applied to their walls.

The secret lies in the outer finishing coloured coat and in its seemingly unique ability to repel water and dirt. In simple terms the paint film is designed to resist the penetration of dirt and pollutants and also the absorption of water. This means that when it rains or water is sprayed on to the wall surface the water runs off the coating and lifts any dirt off the surface with it as it falls to the ground. The result is a nice clean looking wall, free of accumulated dirt.

There are a range of different types of finishing materials that are each suitable for particular property types so please CALL US on 01908 516366 or email us for more information on our range of self-cleaning exterior coating systems.
