Breathable External Solid wall insulation London,Kent,Essex

Posted in Breathable solid wall insulation

Solid wall insulation presents a greater challenge than cavity walls as it is harder to insulate with no cavity to fill. In addition the vast majority of solid walled homes are pre 1940 and may not have sufficient ventilation incorporated into their design to handle the large amounts of moisture created by modern appliances.

In some cases the addition of double glazing, loft insulation and draught proofing can actually lead to damp problems as a result of restricting ventilation and therefore the escape of moisture to the outside. It is essential to the wellbeing of the building fabric and the occupants’ health that a property is able to breathe.

In light of this great care must be taken when external insulation is fitted so as not to trap the escaping moisture in the walls. Most external insulation systems use a completely non-breathable and moisture resistant insulation board that can lead to big problems over time.
