The incidents are being reported all across the UK with the latest floods being reported in Moseley, Birmingham and further south in Malvern, Worcester. In the same week we have also been called out to Huntingdon in Cambridge to find the cellar under about 6 inches of water.

The causes for these sudden floods could be burst water mains and pipes or a result of re-directed underwater streams caused by local building development. In the above cases the local water authorities confirmed no burst pipes or mains and there was no significant buiding work in the immediate vicinity.

The reason therefore appears to be that the level of the local water tables has seen a surge due to the unexpected degrees of rainfall and water has simply risen up into the nearest weak points ie house cellars. In all three above cases the floods appear immediately after heavy rain has fallen and only see the water go again once we have a few consecutive dry days.
