Cracked Blown Render, Pebbledash, Tyroleen,Stucco

Posted in cracked blown renders

Blown or cracking and crumbling cement renders such as smooth painted render, roughcast and pebbledash or Tyroleen are caused by a combination of factors .

The cement element in modern renders makes the covering waterproof to a degree and also gives rigidity to the coating. When the original brick, stone or block walls move as they heat up and cool down or as a result of the foundations drying and contracting then the harder more rigid cement based coatings cannot move to the same degree and the stress causes minute hairline cracks to appear in the render.

Over time the ever present thermal movement coupled with driving rain getting behind the render leads to those cracks growing bigger and bigger and eventually they will lose adhesion to the wall and fall off. The process tends to start in a small area and expand across the wall over time.

Rather than try to patch repair with more of the same failed material the best solution is to replace the rigid, non breathable cementitious coating with one that allows for movement without cracking and also breathes to prevent trapped moisture in the walls.

For solid wall properties in need of render renewal then fitting an EXTERNAL WALL INSULATION system at the same time offers incredible savings on heating costs and an increase in property value.

Multiguard have a wide range of wall coating systems to suit any type of property that are all GUARANTEED not to crack, blow, peel or lose adhesion from the wall for at least a 20 year period.
