Penetrating damp on solid walls  are currently running at record enquiry levels due to the recent cold and snowy weather.

The arctic type cold and easterly winds often cause the temperature of solid walls to drop and the moist internal air caused by our central heating has problems passing through the plaster and brick in vapour form.

When this moist air hits a cold wall surface the moisture turns to water droplets and wets the walls. Black spot mould then can thrive and stain the wall as well as infecting the air we breathe.

The cure is to get the walls sufficiently warm to allow the vapour to pass through without condensing into water.

The solution is to either alter the nature of the wall by wall insulation or alter the heating source to heat the walls directly and not to heat the air directly as our central heating does.
